Position. Leverage. Progress.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling art that explores how to move, establish control, and escape difficult positions. Technique and thoughtful practice matter. At FAC, training also means looking after your partners and helping one another improve.

What you train

BJJ develops ground movement, positioning, control, escapes, and an understanding of submissions. Partner practice connects those ideas: recognize the position, make a thoughtful decision, and work with technique rather than force.

Fundamentals

A foundation begins with posture, balance, safe movement, and recognizing common ground positions. Respecting the tap, communicating with a partner, and following the instructor's guidance are part of learning from the start.

Progression

As understanding grows, students can connect movements and explore controlled resistance at a pace guided by the instructor. The upcoming FAC curriculum, levels, and class format will be confirmed before the program begins.

Training together

Different experience levels bring different perspectives. FAC's community is built on respect, thoughtful practice, and shared progress: challenge each other constructively, look after your partners, and celebrate what the people around you learn.

Your first class

Tell FAC about your experience and goals so we can discuss the right starting point. Ask about eligibility, clothing, equipment, and the class format before attending or buying gear. Exact class times and trial availability are still to be confirmed. FAC Premium memberships include all classes; billing starts when you join.

Looking for Jujitsu in Toronto?

You may see Jujitsu, Jiu-Jitsu, or BJJ when searching for training. This FAC program is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: a grappling art focused on positioning, control, escapes, and submissions. It is not a promise of a separate Japanese Jujutsu program.

Jiu-Jitsu questions, answered.

Who is Marco Costa?

Marco Costa is a fifth-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and former Canadian National Jiu-Jitsu Team coach. He will be part of the teaching community at Fighting Arts Collective.

Where will Marco teach Jiu-Jitsu in Toronto?

The planned FAC program is at 846 College Street, Toronto. It is a College-location program; no Oakwood class has been announced.

When do classes start?

Classes are planned to start in November 2026. The exact start date and weekly schedule are still to be announced. Send an inquiry to ask about the upcoming program.

Can beginners inquire?

Yes. Tell FAC whether you are completely new to grappling or have trained before. Age eligibility, class format, and the right starting point will be confirmed with you.

How much does it cost, and can I book a trial?

FAC Premium memberships include all classes, including Marco's Jiu-Jitsu. Premium 1 Year: $200/month + HST ($226.00 including HST), 12-month minimum commitment; Premium Monthly: $255/month + HST ($288.15 including HST), month-to-month. Your first payment is due when you join, and you can use existing FAC classes before Marco's planned November 2026 start. Use the membership options on this page to join, or ask FAC about a plan. What is the difference between Jujitsu, Jiu-Jitsu, and BJJ?

Jujitsu and Jiu-Jitsu are spellings used in martial arts searches, but they do not tell you the exact style. BJJ means Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a grappling art with a strong ground-training focus. Marco's planned FAC program is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu; ask about the class format rather than assuming all Jujitsu programs are the same.

What will I learn in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu develops positioning, control, escapes, and submissions through technical practice with a partner. The upcoming FAC curriculum and teaching format will be confirmed before classes begin.

Do I need a gi or other equipment for my first class?

Check with FAC before buying equipment. Gi or no-gi format, required clothing, and any introductory equipment arrangements have not yet been announced for this program.
